Trading Post Poem

"Hephaestus at Work"

Beauty is for the woman who does nothing
I think while I bang metal in my forge,
longing for sleep to marinade in,
the sacred heft of sweet silence, but when
one is a god of all things crafted in forges,
sweat pouring from my hot brow, as I
work the bellows and craft gold, silver, steel,
iron into shapes that make women and their husbands
satisfied. They recompense with, ah, the beauty made
with a god's heavy warp and weft.
